News & Notes from the OHL Classic at Mayakoba

The OHL Classic at Mayakoba stands in solidarity with the people of Mexico affected by the two devastating earthquakes of September 7 and 19 which struck Mexico City, Morelos, Puebla, Chiapas and Oaxaca.

As part of our core belief that Golf is Giving, the OHL Classic is pleased to be able to support relief efforts with donations totaling $200,000 pesos to the Red Cross of Mexico and the Topos Rescue Brigade of Tlaltelolco. At this time, more than ever, it is important to stand together and help save lives, heal injuries and rebuild homes. Please join us and visit www.comoayudar.mx to help those affected.

Mexicans are strong. And while the earth may rumble and topple buildings, the fierce spirit of Mexicans will not be shaken and will only become stronger than ever.

Abraham Ancer, Roberto Diaz and Carlos Ortiz have pledged to donate to the relief efforts of the two earthquakes, promising US$100 for each birdie they make this week at the third event of the Web.com Tour finals and US$200 for each eagle. Click here to watch their video.

The OHL Classic is proud to join their efforts and will match their donations, also contributing US$100 per birdie and US$200 per eagle. As proud supporters of Mexican golf, the OHL Classic always pulls for the players representing Mexico but this week it is even more meaningful.

We invite you to get involved and make a pledge to help support the Topos de Mexico either through a one-time donation or by choosing to donate for each birdie or eagle made by Ancer, Diaz and Ortiz this week.

Founded in February 1986, after the Mexico City quake of 1985, the “Brigada de Rescate Topos Tlaltelolco A.C.” is a volunteer non-profit organization trained to assist in times of national and international disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, air and rail crashes, explosions, fires and more. Topos means “moles” in Spanish. One of its founders once defined the group by saying they had the "balls to go in where no one else will.” Visit www.topos.mx. Image
